Harpers Tale - Leywen - Saturday, September 29, 2001, 12:26 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------
You go to the Classroom.
Classroom
Glows bright the room immensely as they highlight the many hides hanging around the room. Tables and chairs are arranged neatly so that the instructors can teach from almost any place in the room, slate boards decorating the entire northern wall. Herbs and spices fill the room with a pleasing aroma, as shelves are covered with hides, scrolls, herbs, and all manners of teaching aids. A small hearth is here, mainly used for demonstrations although there is a pot of klah warming on it, brought over from the hold's kitchens by the apprentices daily.
You see Healer Interview Board, Ripple, Healer Board, Tray1, Narali's Herbal, Infirmary patient, Teobald, and Cocoa here.
Kiriya, Kerali, Aeriella, Magen, Nerak, Musuko, and Nan are here.
Obvious exits:
Records Room Healer Center
Nerak giggles at Kiriya's sign... and waits to see how the new appies answer...
Kiriya grimaces at the words 'hands-on', and peers at the bandages and gauze. Strange thoughts dance through her head...
Nan shrugs, since no one else is answering, and speaks up. "Do no Harm."
Leywen sneaks in, staying close to the back seeing as she's late in arriving. Her arms wrapped around her notebook she slides into a chair opening the book to a blank page, her pencil at the ready.
Nerak nods at Nan.
Musuko smiles, and looks around.
Kerali nods her head approvingly, though it's a bit difficult with a flit on
her head. She whispers "Shoo Zoar.." and waves him off, much to his
annoyance. Sparing a glance at Leywen as she sneaks in, she nods again. "You're
correct Nan. Throughout this class, I want you to remember that rule...no matter
what, /Do no harm!/" Here eyes sparkle brightly as she moves on. "Now
tell me...why would we need first aid? I mean, you might think well...we just
need to provide it...but why?" She picks up a roll of gauze and begins
to fiddle with it in her hands as she walks from behind the table.
Kerali releases Zoar, who launches with great wingstrokes and great dignity
into the air.
Kiriya eyes Kerali. Very nervously. She intends /not/ to be mummified today. Trying to hide that feeling, she gives a rather plucky grin to the rest of the class, twiddling her thumbs. This could get awful interesting real soon..
Okay, so he's more than a little late. That's okay, right? Right? Just pretend. In any event, he's here, and as Kelson steps into the classroom, he sort of /sliiiiiides/ in, hoping to be unnoticed. He was here the whole time, really he was! Just pretend. Again. The lanky, tanned, brown-haired, brown-eyed lad slides into a seat in the back of the classroom, attempting to look /ever/-so-attentive.
'Do no harm!' The three words are printed into Leye's notebook, the girl underlining it with a thick line. Seeing as the teacher's already seen her, she might as well answer the question. Or try to, "so that you can.. What's the word, stabilize people before moving 'em?"
Kerali
Large, dark brown eyes flecked with gold amusedly glance at you from a delicate face balanced by a small nose and full, slightly smiling lips. Complementing the look, her hair is a warm klah color, within which are random streaks of gold and honey, a gift from Pern's sun. It hangs to about mid-back, where it tends to curl haphazardly here and there, and often carries the scent of flowering herbs. She is not very tall, only 5'4, but carries herself with confidence and a dash of mischief. Her figure is lithe and toned, with just the right amount of feminine curves *there*, but leave no doubt...she is not to be messed with in a scuffle! Her skin is lightly tanned and flawless except for a very faint scar on her forearm.
A pair of soft wherhide trousers in a fascinating shade of green adorns her shapely legs. To complement, she also wears a medium-sleeve length tunic of a paler green, reminiscent of willows, that has a deeply cut v-shaped opening at the neck, formed by wrapping across the front, and tying at one side. Along the edges of the tunic, tiny firelizards are embroidered in a dark forest green. Her feet are covered by a pair of well-worn wherhide boots in black (yes, black again) that extend up above her knees. As usual, a small silver dagger is tucked into her right boot, noticeable only by the slight bulge when she sits down.
Resting delicately in the hollow of her throat is a pendant of a frosted blue-green stone, reminiscent of the ocean's aquamarine waters. Dangling from her left ear is a tiny, delicate scallop shell of iridescent white, off of which the sunlight sparkles and dances in a rainbow of colors.
She proudly bears upon her shoulder the knot of a Senior Healer Apprentice, purple and white cord dancing around to form a loop with a single tail hanging downwards.
She is awake and looks alert.
Carrying:
Seaglass Pendant Shell Earring
Kerali is 19 Turns and 10 months old.
Nan shifts position, hoping the stool won't tip under her. "Much of what needs to be done to help an injured person /can/ be done right away, and some of it /needs/ to be done as soon as you can."
Musuko fiddles with a dagger in her hand, a little habbit when she's nervous, and tries to pay attention.
Kerali simply says nothing until Kelson takes his seat at the back of the classroom. "You're close Leywen, and Nan, you're almost on the mark." She continues to look at Kelson as she says this. "Oh, and note this as well in your notebooks.../never/ be late to Kerali's class!" And with that statement, she hurls the gauze at Kelson, watching it hit his head with a soft *pud* as she smirks quietly. "Simply put, we need first aid because if there's an emergency, we're not going to have time to go look things up in a book. However...what /should/ we do in an emergency, at least until we're Journeymen ourselves?"
You see, Kelson is one of those "rebellious" types. If he could find a tattoo artist, he'd probably be tattooed as well as having his hair wetted almost constantly so that it's spikey. He'll probably h ave to get up later in order to fix it, too. In any event, he sneers at Kerali as she makes it a point to mock him and then, all at once, there's gauze being hurled at his head. It bounces off, landing on his desk. Eyes widen and then he swipes up the gauze and hurls it back, another sneer upon his lips. He might as well stick his tongue out at Kerali, at this point!
"Get healer help. Getting a healer is helping? And do not panic. Assess the emergency and send a friend or firelizard for help asap?" Magen speaks up from the back.
Nan twists about to look at Magen, nodding at her answer.
Leywen blushes under her dark skin, her eyes glancing around at the others, the corners of her mouth coming up in a grin. "Find out what's wrong to begin with?" she ask, fiddling with her pencil while waiting to note down the correct answer. "I mean, if we do something and it's the wrong thing, wouldn't that be as bad as doing nothing?"
Nerak smirks as she sees the gauze fly! At least it wasn't a sharp object!
Kerali nods approvingly at Magen, and deftly sidesteps the gauze as it's flung back at her, but simply ignores Kelson. That one won't be getting credit, for sure. "You are correct Magen." She looks over at Kiriya, and winks. "So, let us begin the hands on part!" She steps over to a cot that was brought in for class, and gestures towards Kiriya. "Sr. Apprentice Kiriya has /gratefully/ volunteered to be our...mmm...'victim' for the class." She pats the cot and nods..."Kiri, if you would?"
Musuko smiles, and has already forgotten the question!!! she sighs, then twirls her knife around, keeping it low, so that only Nerak, Kiri and Kera can see it.
Nerak sees Musuko's knife, and gets gauze ready, knowing that she always ends up slicing a finger or two when she twirls her knife! What a learning scene that would be! and giggles!
Aeriella eyes Kelson scrutinizingly, lips curling downward into a definite scowl. Standing from her seat, she slides right up behind him, reaching out to place her hands on his shoulders, and /awfully/ close to his neck. "Behave," she grunts, flicking one of his ears with an unfiled fingernail. Next -- Musuko. "What do you have there?" she demands; what, you think she would've survived with those miner apprentices so long without being able to see dangerous items such as knives? "If you know what's good for you, you'll put it somewhere where /I/ can't find it, 'cause if I get my hands on a sharp instrument in such a scenario as this, there could be /need/ for first aid."
Musuko blinks, and puts the knife in her desk.
Magen keeps her eyes downward, making notes in her book.
Nan stretches out her neck to see the cot, oblivious to Musuko's knife until she is busted for it.
Leywen slides out of her chair, tip-toeing to get a closer seat where she can see better. Passing Musuko, she notices the knife-play, but doesn't say anything, only gives the sr. appy a crooked grin as Aeriella berates her. Slipping into her new seat, she attempts to make herself invisible to the journeywoman.
Nerak's smirk doesn't go unnoticed and a conspiritorial smile is flashed her direction as well as a leering type of wink from Kelson, of course. It's about that time that Aeriella's touch comes to his shoulders. They tense, hunching, and then attempt to shrug out of her grasp. Of course, never once, does he actually say anything. And just as obviously, he's also not paying attention. Shh! Just pretend.
Kiriya smiles, and moves to the cot, a smile on her face. "Ready when you are, Kerali." She scans the crowd. Don't laugh.
Kerali tries to hide her smirk as Aeriella delivers her brand of discipline to Kelson, then moves on to Musuko. She grins at Kiriya, and motions the other Appies and Sr. Appies over. "Come closer so you can see." She swiftly removes the 'guinea pig' sign and places it on the counter, then places her hands on her hips. "So. You come upon poor Kiriya here, who's bloodied and wounded. What's the first thing you do?"
Oh, no. Leywen will /not/ go unnoticed by Aeriella -- the Journeywoman is merely saving some for later abuse. She retakes her seat now, feet up on the back of Kelson's chair, and begins once again watching Kerali at the front of the room.
Kiriya
Before you stands a teenaged girl, looking up at you in wonder through sienna eyes, deep and dark, shielded behind a row of bushy bangs of a lighter shade of brown. Her hair continues down in a braid, slung over her shoulder, and terminating just below her waist. A scar runs over her left eye in a deep red flesh color, incurred by Threadscore and agenothree burns, and it serves as the only existing evidence that her family was killed by the same in a tragic accident years ago. Her body, though clothed thoroughly, is slender and curvaceous, and her full, pouting ruby-colored lips smile at you when you come in her sight.
Tightly fit 'round her body rests a black short-sleeved, short-legged divesuit. The opening for the neck is high, obscuring all the muscles, yet outlining her slender neck's form. Cascading down from the neck is an elaborate pattern of blood-red slashes, crossing over her breasts and down to where the right leg opens just at mid-thigh. A small caduceus is embroidered on the left shoulder, signifying that she is a member of the healercraft and wears this symbol, in place of a knot, with pride. Kiriya's Wherhide Bag hangs heavily from Kiriya's shoulder. Perched on Kiriya's shoulder is Tenshi. Perched on Kiriya's shoulder is Touga.
A delicate ruby pendant encircles her neck in a flow of silver ending in red fire. The necklet is solid silver and flows along the hollows of her neck, terminating in a dazzling ruby of the finest cut.
She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 2 minutes.
Carrying:
Kiriya's Wherhide Bag Touga
Ruby Pendant Suki
Tenshi
Kiriya is 17 Turns, 3 months, and 16 days old.
Nan grins sardonically. "Make sure it's /her/ blood."
Musuko moves close enugh to tickle Kiri, and does so. she then smiles at Kiri, winking. SHHH!
Kiriya's eyes widen. "Eh?..." Ok. Knowing Kerali, she can get a little scared...
"Find out where the wound is," Leywen offers, craning her neck to see what's going on, despite the fact she moved closer.
Nerak moves closer to the 'guinea pig' and the teacher. She is watching, and waiting to see if she is needed for help, or otherwise. She gives a wink to Kerali and Kiriya, and stifles a giggle as Musuko is repremanded.
Aeriella
Chestnut ringlets fall beside her face, landing in frazzled masses upon her shoulders. Shining with a golden hue, her tresses are pulled into two sections, tied with blue ribbon. Beneath her hair, Aeri's tanned face emerges. Beneath two thin, copper eyebrows lay her sparkling, curious eyes. Each colored with the extreme azure of the deepest part of a pool, they radiate her immense imagination, flashing with every new idea that pops into her head. Below is her straight nose, rather long in proportion to her face, but ending in a round button. A splash of light freckles rests upon the bridge. Lips, pudgy and always smiling, conceal her white teeth. Her cheeks are blushed naturally to the color of rose petals, but often darken when she's shy or embarrassed. Below her round little chin comes her short, bronze-tanned neck. Her limbs are long and thin, giving a pliant grace to her movements.
Aeriella is adorned in a pale blue jumper, belted with a ribbon at the waist. She wears a plain white shirt with long sleeves that reach beyond her wrists underneath the sleeveless jumper. The neckline of the shirt and of the jumper match perfectly, with the shirt appearing about a finger's width above the neckline of the jumper. The skirt is wide, reaching well below her ankles but holding it's shape as she walks. Underneath are her plain, well-used boots, laces tied up into little bows. Aeriella wears Aeriella's Listening Tube around her neck.
The knot of a Healer Journeyman rests on Aeri's shoulder. It is formed by a pair of cords, one white and one purple, twisted with a thread of silver to create a single loop and long tail.
She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 2 minutes.
Aeriella is 21 Turns, 10 months, and 7 days old.
"Look around for any possible dangers?" Magen adds. "Slowly approach the victim, keeping a watch for danger?"
Musuko shakes her head... she knows that noone should attack a healer!! if they did, someone would help. no doubt!
Kelson scowls, and then slides easily out of his seat, extending his lanky
body and then swaggering silently up toward Kiriya where he can more properly
see and where
Aeriella's feet won't be on his chair.
"I don't think tunnel snakes know the difference between a healer or a weaver." Magen laughs. "I hate tunnel snakes!"
Kerali crosses her arms a bit, and nods a small nod. "Sort of. You want to remember, first of all, that you don't want to move the victim...er...patient." Sly grin. "You don't know how badly she's been injured...broken bones, or something worse might have occurred." She grabs another roll of gauze. "So. She's obviously bleeding, so how would you stop it?"
Kiriya raises an eyebrow at Musuko, and whispers quietly, "Put that knife away before you cut yourself. Again."
Nan sobers, marginally. "YOu'd need to figure out where she's bleeding from, and try to stop it. Pressure will work on small wounds, pressure points for bigger ones."
Magen nods in agreement with Nan.
Musuko puts a finger to her mouth. Shhh, Kiri, don't let everyone know! she smiles, and hides it.
Do you hear that deep, rumbly voice? That's Kelson. Nice voice, actually, and though low, it carries. "Cut off the offending limb," He puts in rather soberly. Does he actually believ it? Or is he just being a smart-arse like usual?
Nerak again nods at Nan's answers, this appy crew is good... Ok, most of them...
Scribbling down a few notes, Leywen's mind is halfway on the class, halfway on what she's writing. "Yeah, pressure.. Maybe a bandage if possible?" she says, nodding agreement with Nan.
Once again, Kerali lobs the gauze at Kelson. "I'm sorry Kelson, but you are incorrect!!" She turns back to the other students, and nods approvingly. "Right. You need to stop the bleeding, so she doesn't lose too much blood...although from the looks of it..." She snickers softly, then coughs a bit, resuming her 'studious' look. "Can anyone tell me, by pointing at Kiri here...where the pressure points are?"
Kiriya gets ready to be pointed at. Smile and nod.
Musuko goes over them in her mind, arms, legs... throat maybe... if you want her dead...
Leywen's eyes run up and down the 'subjects' body, brows furrowing as she wonders where pressure points would be. Staying seated, she shakes her head slightly, nod afraid to admit she doesn't know. Instead she makes a neat little stick-figure sketch in her notebook, getting ready to draw in just /where/ those pressure point are.
Kelson's rejection doesn't really appear to be affecting him too much. Nope -- he's looking as passive as ever, stony even, his dark gaze all but boring into a spot /just/ above Kerali's head. You could say that he's paying attention, but...well, he's not. A faint smile appears on the punky young man's features and his gaze snaps over toward Kiriya stands. A suggestive leer is sent her direction, but again, the apprentice says nothing.
Nan points clearly at Kiri's main pressure points, shoulder and elbow, thigh and leg. Somebody's been studying up ahead of time.....
Kiriya is unaware of Kelson's leer and looks down. Pressure points... hmm, where are they?...
Nerak watches as Kerali teaches the pressure points, She thinks she knows, but is unsure, her FA1 class never really listed them...
Kerali shakes her head toward Nan. "Close, but not quite Nan. Here..." and she pressed into Kiriya's shoulder. "...if you push gently there, all you'll feel is mostly bone and muscle. The vein's not that easy to get to. But if you press /here/..." and she pushes at a spot on Kiri's arm, just above the armpit "...you'll effectively stop the bleeding. The elbow's not a great place, though if the cut is below the elbow, you can have the patient bend their arm up. And you were correct in regards to the thigh." She nods satisfactorily. "Hold the pressure point /gently/ until the bleeding looks like it's stopped. Now, if it doesn't stop, what would you need to do?"
And now it's time fo Kelson to speak up again which he does, his voice rumbling just a little higher than it did previously, "Remove the limb?" There we go. Maybe if it doesn't stop bleeding /then/ you can remove the limb. Amputations are fun. Morbid, much?
Kiriya winces and speaks up for the first time in the lesson. "No amputations, thank you. I'd like to keep all my limbs intact..."
Leywen puts her little x's into her drawing having learned where the point were, a glance going to Kelson as he insists on removing the limb. She can't keep a tiny smile from reaching her lips, but she quickly returns her attention to the teaher. "Sew it?" she guesses, sure she was wrong as soon as she's said it.
Kerali smiles sweetly at Kelson, her voice controlled and soft. /Too/ controlled. "No, Apprentice Kelson. Amputation has it's time and place, but not in the field." Turning to face Leywen, she nods, a smile on her face. "You're right, Leywen. You'll need to stitch the wound closed. And after class, I'll give you folks some practice material, since stitching is sort of an art." She turns back to Kiriya and pokes her arm gently. "Okay....let's say she's not bleeding, but has a wicked bruise on her arm. What do we do, Nan?"
At Leywen's smile, thin lips curl upward and Kelson shoots her a smirking glance as well. Kerali is either ignored or her comments are given no heed. This is one apprentice that is either new to the craft or needs to have some sense beaten into him -- he's not going to be staying too long if he keeps this up, now will he?
Nan thinks back quickly to the bonehealing class, wondering if it applies. "If nothing else seems to be wrong, probably not much. A bruise can be tended later, in an infirmary. I'd check to make sure the patient could move the arm, and that there didn't seem to be any other injuries." Hope that's all - she thinks quickly over what's she's missing.
Magen gets ready to duck! Incoming....
Leywen's eyebrows shoot up, surprised that she'd gotten it right, quickly jotting that down, the smile on her face growing wider. This wasn't so hard after all, now was it? Kelson, on the other hand is effectively ignored by now, since Leye's eyes are back on the 'subject' and the teacher.
Kerali nods approvingly, though she arches one eyebrow delicately. She glances up at the ceiling for a moment. "Good, very good. One thing you might want to consider, however, are some poultices that could be useful. Which herbs might you consider?" She points this question at Leywen, then glances briefly up towards the flits at the ceiling again. Hmm...what is she thinking?
Kiriya snickers. Typical Kerali. Always referring back to those herbs...
Magen quietly picks up her empty roughsack and puts it over her head, while holding her notebook up close to her face...waiting...
"Which.. Herbs," Leywen repeats, becoming quite lost for words as her smile fluttering to becomes a straight line as her brow creases while she thinks hard and long over the question. Maybe she should have studied some more, eh? "I, errr... I don't know," she finally mutters, glancing down at her notebook, fiddling her pencil around between her fingers.
Musuko blinks, she had been daydreaming, adn then pays more attention to the class.
Nan looks sympathetically at Leye, sorry that she's not comfortable answering.
Kerali smiles encouragingly at Leywen. "No worries, dear...that gets covered in Herbalry anyways." She grins at mention of her favorite topic. "I'd recommend a poultice of hyssop or a salve of arnica flowers, if you happen to have it on ya." She glances out the window. "In the interest of time, which would you like to discuss....splinting a bonebreak, with Kiriya here as our victim...burns, or sprains?"
Nan looks pensive for a moment. "I'd prefer to learn about the treatment of burns, if it doesn't matter."
Nerak would like bonehealing, since that is her specialty!
Magen, feeling a little ridiculous, puts down her roughsack, and notebook barrier. "Burns?"
Leywen scribbles down the names of the herbs Kerali mentioned, then looks up grinning slightly again. "I'd a splint on myself once.. When I broke my arm," she notes, tapping her pencil on her left arm as she speaks. "So I don't really need to learn 'bout that right now. Burns'd be good."
Magen
A woman with a petite frame of 5'2, 118lbs, who has warm, friendly green eyes, finely groomed eyebrows, long eyelashes, and thick rich chestnut colored hair, plaited in one single braid. Magen has fair skin, and a clear complexion, that is tanned, with freckles from time spent exploring outdoors. Straight nose, full lips, she is often seen chewing on her bottom lip, when deep in thought. Her voice has a deep melodic, slightly husky tone.
She is wearing an apprentices robe of plain white. Magen wears Magen's Listening Tube around her neck. Rune is sitting on Magen's shoulder. Dagaz has his tail wrapped around Magen's neck, for balance, while his body is coiled around her braid, and he's peeking at you from behind Magen's head.
She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 2 minutes.
Carrying:
Magen's Listening Tube Rune
Magen's Notebook Dagaz
Magen is 22 Turns, 1 month, and 21 days old.
Musuko speaks up. "Burns or sprains... please?"
Nerak looks up at Kiri and whispers "which would the guinea pig like, a burn a sprain or a broken bone" and winks at her!
Kerali hrms to herself..she really wanted to splint up Kiriya. Eh..she can wrap her in gauze instead! "Okay...I'll do burns for now...bonebreaks and splinting can be taught in another class, which I may volunteer for." Grimace. "For burns, the main thing to remember is to prevent infection. This, of course means redwort. Apply it liberally, unless the patient is in severe pain, at which you would want to apply numbweed first. Try to leave the burns uncovered if possible, else use a thin strip of gauze to protect it." She grabs up another roll of gauze, and smiles sweetly at Kiriya. "Each of you grab a roll of gauze from the table, and position yourself at each of Kiri's other limbs, if you will."
Magen takes a sigh of relief. Remember a class, where chunks of wet moss where tossed at the students. Making a notation for future reference. No firelizards. No knives. No moss tossing. Underlining Burns.
Musuko takes a roll of gauze, and takes Kiri's left leg. "I'll take this leg."
Kiriya peers. Okay. So you're going to mummify me. Or not. Well, she can live through the wrapping, she guesses. "Don't wrap it /too/ tight. It'll cut off the circulation."
Nerak grabs a roll of gauze and stands at Kiri's head, gauze at the ready "Ok!"
Magen picks up her roll of gauze and stands at the foot of Kiriya.
Oooh. Gauze and a female. This could be interesting. Kelson moves over, grabbing up a roll of gauze and tossing it from hand to hand even as he slides to Kiriya's side. Look. Ain't he kyoooooot? Well, actually, he's kind of creepy, but at least this movement shows he's actually paying attention. Kel, of course, is standing near one of Kiri's legs.
Nan steps up to reach out for a roll of gauze. Avoiding Kelson, she takes a spot near Kiri's left arm.
Kiriya *oh, Faranth, I'm going to become the first mummy of the healercraft
Kerali eyes Nerak rather amusedly. "Nerak, I don't think her head qualifies as a limb. Though some folk might say otherwise." She shakes her head, then lifts Kiriya's left arm. "You can pair up on a limb, since she's only got four that I know of." Chuckle. "Okay...to start wrapping, and it truly does take practice, place an end of the gauze about a handlength or two above the wound, burn, what have you, and hold it with your free hand." She demonstrates on Kiriya's arm.
Musuko does that, having practice, and wraps the bottom of Kiri's left leg.
Nan *shrugs. Everyone has /some/ claim to fame.
Magen waits for Musuko and Kelson to individually wrap each leg. Then when both legs are done, she throws back her head laughing, and begins to wrap both legs together....
Kiriya grins. "Kerali, how much of my body do you need them to wrap?" she asks...
Leywen sliiides out of her seat grabbing a roll of gauze then positions herself at Kiriya's arm, looking down at her with a grin on her face. Everything about her embarrassment about not knowing the answer forgotten. Looking up, she sees Kelson, the guy's antics, making her grin even more. Checking Kerali's demonstration she repeats it with careful motions, her touch light and delicate.
Nan gently begins wrapping Kiri's left arm, trying to decide if too loose is better than too tight, or the other way around.
"Well, This is fun!" remarks the eternally cheerful little appie. "Kiri, is this too tight?" her little sister asks quickly. Musuko likes tormenting her sis!
Musuko
Deep brown hair accents this young womans frame, and her face. Her hair is pulled back in a neat bun but her bangs are out, covering her eyes. Even through the bangs you can see her blue eyes shifting colors, and see them sparkle in wonder. Her eyes have a light to them, they seem to light up with an energy in her own body. Her form is well developed for such a young and active woman. She is tall and muscular. She knows how to take care of herself, and shows it with a scar, usually invisable, but standing out against her tan. Her ruby colored lips seem to be constantly smiling, showing that she's friendly.
She wears a light tan-colored tunic, tucked into dark brown breeches and secured with a silver-buckled black belt. A small teardrop-shaped pendant hangs around her neck, and her feet are clad in tough black boots. A long brown cloak wraps around her shoulders and body, completing the look. Her clothing is made of stiff material, but is flexible enough to move around fluidly. Musuko is holding a knife. Perched on Musuko's shoulder is Emraldae.
She's wearing the purple and white knot of a Senior Healer Apprentice.
She is awake and looks alert.
Carrying:
'Suko's bag Dagger
#2166 Message Tube
#116 Emraldae
Musuko is 16 Turns, 5 months, and 24 days old.
Nerak begins to wrap Kiri's right upper arm - leaving plenty of room if anyone wants to wrap her lower arm. She adeptly wraps her arm, not too tight, not too loose, and stands back to look at her handiwork. "Looks good to me! Poor cocoa has recieved lots of bandages since I needed practice, poor dog. But she's been a good patient!"
Leywen, of course, is given something of a smirk-wink once again, even as he kneels down, beginning to wrap the 'guinea pig's' thigh. Of course, he's going to start high up and wrap down from there. Smooth, ain't he? Wrap, wrap. That wasn't a caress, now was it? /Nah/...*cough* As he wraps, Kelson grins upward a Kiriya, eyes glittering.
Kerali nods in approval as she watches everyone follow her motions. "Continue to wrap, first over the free end, then around and around, covering more and more skin area, until the wound and/or burn is covered." She chuckles at Magen's wrapping technique. "Aye Magen...good technique there!" She winks at Kiriya, then notices she's run out of gauze. "Umm...Musuko..can you go and cut us some more gauze from that rather large roll there?" She points towards the far counter, then glances back. She glances disapprovingly at Kelson, and nods up at the flits perch. Time for discipline...
Zoar silently dives down off his perch....straight for Kelson. With silent stealthness, he grabs Kelson's notebook, and zips out of the room rather quickly, chattering loudly.
Kiriya chuckles. "Kerali, this feels so silly, but I'm beginning to enjoy the attention... Would you mind holding that cup of klah to my lips a second and letting me take a drink so I don't have to move my limbs?" She nods to a lonely mug in the corner on a table.
Nan looks up to make sure she's following directions. "How do you end it? Just tie it off?" She shakes her head, thinking that must not be right.
"How d'you tie it off?" Leywen asks, done wrapping her assigned limb, her eyes looking up to peek at Kelson's work. What /was/ he doing? Even so, she couldn't help grinning at him, her eyes only trailing back to the teacher to get the answer to her question.
Musuko nods, and walking over to the gauze roll she starts cutting from it.
A few minutes pass, then all hear her gasp as she cuts herself. she walks over
to Kerali, and kinda chuckles weakly.
Musuko says, "I did it again.."
Kelson finishes off with his wrapping and ties it off, offering Kiriya's thigh an almost motherly pat. Just as he does so, Zoar flies for his notebook, carrying it out of the room. The young man's face doesn't change a bit -- nope. He doesn't really use the notebook. He doesn't really need it. The firelizard is /welcome/ to it.
Musuko watches as emmy launches off her shoulder. Emmy then proceeds to find someone to feed her.
Kiriya rolls her eyes. "Silly little sister. You're supposed to /watch/ when you cut stuff with that awfully sharp knife, you know..."
Emraldae cheeps and flies around Kelson's head scolding. She got the idea from Zoar what was to be done!
Kerali looks up quickly at a gasp, then smiles faintly at Musuko. "That you did, eh?" She shakes her head, and motions to the students. "Well, looks like we've got a /real/ victim...follow me over to the counter, folks. I'll demonstrate how to bandage her up right quick." Kiriya forgotten at the moment, she gently nudges Musuko towards the counter.
Walking over to the mug of klah, Nerak puts in a straw, and offers it to the Mummy. "Here you go Kiri." and laughs as Zoar jums to discipline. It hasn't been to long since *he* needed discipline. something about flits and klah...
Musuko walks to the counter, and smiles weakly. "sorry 'bout that!"
Hand lashes out, making for the firelizard's wing. "Do you /really/ want to do that, puddin'?" The young man's rumbly voice again steps forward, patronizing as ever. His aim is rather good, but who knows -- maybe Kelson didn't grab a wing, but rather something else of Emraldae's.
Leywen glances from Kerali to Musuko down to her hands still holding the loose end of the gauze. Shrugging, she tugs the end underneath the rest of the bandage, hoping that will hold, then stands, hugging herself as she watches Musuko's treatment, her eyes glancing toward Kelson every now and then, the grin on her face perpetual.
Musuko calls to emraldae whom then lands on her shoulder, the green tail winding around her neck.
Kerali hastily beckons the class over... "C'mon folks...don't want Suko here to bleed to death.." and she peers at the cut...it's not that bad, really. "Okay...let's see here...watch as I put pressure just below the cut with my hands..." she squeezes below Musuko's palm gently...the blood seems to not flow as much (of course this is being done after having rinsed the hand with water). "Now, I'll apply some redwort to....what does redwort do....Kelson?" She smiles sweetly as she slathers it on Musuko's palm.
Nan sends a firm message to Herald not to misbehave himself, then turns to peer at the newest example of treatment.
Magen stretches to look over shoulders. "Redwort. An antiseptic used as a cleansing wash."
Nerak shakes her head as Musuko does it again... and helps Kiri unbandage her legs, so that each one is seperated, in case she wants to sit up... "Here you go Kiri" and laughs as Kerali asks about redwart. She remembers something about redwort mustaches...
Kiriya idly walks over to Kerali and Musuko. She could relearn a thing or two...
Musuko chuckles, and then winces, the pressure near it hurts! She looks around, and smiles. "I didn't do it on purpose!" she says.
Nan chortles, mostly to herself. It's never on purpose, but it's always inevitable.
Nerak Looks at all the appies "She never does it on purpose, but we always
carry first aid supplies with us around 'Suko! Whenever the knife comes out,
so do the first aid supplies!" and pats her bag, knowing that she carries
the supplies just for such an occasion...
Magen, with a twinkle in her eye, whispers to Kiriya. "Go ahead. This is better than the fruit in the sock stitching class. Volunteer to stitch." laughing softly.
Well, so he didn't quite grab the firelizard. At least he looks up when his name is mentioned. Unfortunately, he's too slow and shrugs bony shoulders, "That," He replies, noncommitably
Well, so he didn't quite grab the firelizard. At least he looks up when his name is mentioned. Unfortunately, he's too slow and shrugs bony shoulders, "That," He replies, noncommitably. Kelson then leans back against his desk and crosses his arms over an underdeveloped hest.
Musuko will dump some juice on Nerak later.
Kerali eyes nods in agreement at Magen. "Good, Magen! Kelson...I highly recommend you attend the Herbal class...if you haven't already." She glares at him a bit, then goes back to Musuko's wound. "Oh, sorry Suko...here..it's stopped bleeding a bit anyways." She releases the pressure...the wound only oozes slightly. "Once you've done so, I would wrap it up in gauze, similar to what we were doing with Kiriya over here...by the way, Kiri..." and she glances at the..erm...bandage-covered girl "...that's an interesting look you've got there." She stifles a giggle as she ties off the bandage on Musuko's hand. "Any questions?"
Musuko rubs her hand, and sheathes her knife. "Nope!"
Musuko sheath's her knife.
Kiriya grins. "I may need some help after class. Or should I meander the halls in my bandages?"
Musuko walks to the Healer Center.
Leywen tilts her head, braids moving to snake around her neck as she does so, her eyes (mostly) on Musuko's treatment as the girl recieves her treatment. Grinning, she glances over her shoulder to look at Kiriya again, a look which turns more sideways to wink at Kelson, before her eyes turn back on Kerali, waiting for more information. Was there more information?
"Wait til it gets dark. You could wail and wander up and down the hall outside the appy dorms!" laughing at the image...
Nerak laughs! "The Mummy lives! hehe! I'll help you to unwind after class, relax, let down your hair, etc..." and winks at her!
Kerali lets out a laugh, then goes behind the counter and pulls out the bag. "On yer way out, grab an orangefruit here.." and she opens the bag, revealing the pimply fruit inside "...and a needle and some thread. You're homework assignment is to practice stitching these up." She takes a fruit and makes a deft slice. "Cut it a bit, then take the needle and thread, and sew it up, like this." She manages a quick demonstration. "Leave'em in here by tomorrow, and I'll check 'em. Oh, and don't forget to mark 'em with your name or initials? Thanks!" She nods once. "Classsss....dismissed!" She laughs at the mummified Kiriya. "And give a hand to our personal victim here...Kiriya!" Applause!
Nan sits back, grinning at the exchange. /She's/ never been the one to have to patch Suko up, maybe it's time to learn.
Kiriya walks out.
Magen puts up her hands to clap, but Kiriya is gone...
Nerak applauses Kerali on a job well done, and a class well taught! She grabs an orangefriut, after everyone else has one, and begins to eat it. "Thanks for the snack!"
Nan picks up an orangfriut and examines it, wondering how big a slice she should try to sew up.
Oh, of course. Class is done. Kiriya is actually flashed a smile, but about it's only characteristic is that it's feral. Isn't /that/ great? An orange is snatched up and tossed from hand to hand as Kelson slips out of the classroom, heedless of whoever else is around. Who cares? He has to go pee.
Leywen grabs an orangefruit, hesitating a moment as she stands with it in her hand. "Can I get Elehu to check on it?" she says, biting a nail as she looks from the fruit to Kerali. "I'm s'posed to get back to Reaches with something for her..." Though she couldn't quite remember /what/ it was she'd been sent to get. Oh, well. She'd find out, since it was in her notebook. Right?
Etaoin walks in from the Healer Center.
Putting her notebook and stylus back into her roughsack, Magen helps herself to an orangefruit. "Thank you Sr. Kerali for the adventure. It was a good class. I enjoyed it." Smelling the citrus she puts it in her sack.
Magen goes home.
Kerali nods towards Leywen. "Of course...just as long as a Journeyman or higher looks at it, and let's me know via flit messenger that you've done fine." She pats Leywen on the back. "Remember...I'm still an Appie too!"
Leywen chuckles, her eyes gleaming as she looks around the room finding Kelson gone. Oh, well, she wouldn't be here much longer anyway. If only she could remember what Elehu'd sent her to get. Going to get her notebook, she flips through it, finding her answer somewhere in the pages. "Oh yeah.. Ointment," she mutters to herself, giving the higher-ranks a nod as she leaves. "Thanks for the class," is called out as she walks out the door.
