More Flirting and a Physical
Harpers Tale - Leywen - Friday, June 29, 2001, 7:15 PM
------------------------------------------------------
You head through the sliding doors to the east and into the Artists' Workshop.
Artists' Workroom
The first really noticable things in this room are the four oversized wooden worktables. Each of these is lined with wooden stools for the artists to work at. A large set of cabinets and counters line the four wall everywhere except at the door. These are strewn with paints, pencils, paper and all sorts of other things. Small stands site about the room with works in progressed and finished works alike, giving the room a very welcoming feel.
On the perch are Pisces and Lennier.
You see Display Shelf here.
Kryz is here.
Obvious exits:
Main Hall
"Hi, there," Leywen says as she comes into the workshop, beaming a smile at Kryz, "I was looking for ya." A wink is shot in the harpers direction as she comes toward him.
Kryz is sitting on the top of one of the large tables, his sketchpad in his lap. HE looks up as he hears a voice to se who it is. "Ley, how are you?" he asks as a slight smile forms in the corners of his mouth. "didn't expect to see you here."
"Well, you said to stop by any time," she says, coming to sit next to him. "So here I am." Beam, smile, grin and an added wink for effect. Peering down at his sketchpad, Leywen attempts to see what he's drawing. "I'm good," she notes, remembering to answer his first question. "And you?"
Kryz shrugs and lets out a sight, "eh...," if that's really an answer. "I suppose I'm good. I mean, I should be good." He looks over at her and lets out a sigh. Maybe he should explain. "Well, I got a job offer, but I don't know any of the details yet, all I know is that it's not located here." He lets out another sigh before finishing. "so I'm trying to decide if I should take it and leave everyone close to me behind, or not accept it. The deal is I really don't now much about it, so I'm kinda in limbo til they post more information."
"Oh," Leywen says as her face fall into somewhat disappointed looking features. "It's hard to leave those behind that you know.... And love," she continues, searching out his eyes. Even those you just met, but she doesn't voice that. "You don't even know where it is?" She shakes her head, knowing that she most certainly wouldn't accept a position if she didn't know where it would be. "If it were me, I'd wait until I knew a bit more...."
Kryz runs a hand through his hair, letting the turquoise strands fall back into his eyes once done. "Well, I haven't accepted it yet. I was hoping to get more info. I jsut don't want someone else to run in and take the possition. I thought I'd have to know where it's located at before they moved me there, so I was waiting a bit."
"Yeah," Leywen sighs, letting her head hang a bit, lifting her hand to untie the scarf holding her braids together letting them fall around her face. "It's too bad, though... I was just getting to know ya." She looks up at him, giving him a weak smile.
Kryz smiles slightly. "Well, it's nothing to get upset over," he says. "I mean, it might just be a temp thing. I might be back here before you'd even miss me." He shoots her a reasuring grin. "Until I actually find out more information, I'm not gonna let it get me down."
Leywen chuckles, straightening her slumped pose. Well, if he wasn't gonna get depressed about it, she wouldn't either. "I guess it's not so bad, then," she says, her smile broadening again. "Have you been busy then? Painting?" She looks around the workshop, trying to pick out what Kryz had painted, failing misarably to see anything.
Kryz shrugs. "Not really. I mean, I have been, but it's only my project....boring stuff." He looks around as well as if he might unexpectedly find sometihn ghe's painted. "I painted a landscape of Keroon Hold for a present for a friend, but it's not here . It's hanging in her room. That's about the only fun thing I've done lately."
Leywen grins, hearing him talk about how boring it was to paint. "I wouldn't say that it's boring. You can do stuff most people can't," she says, brushing a braid behind her ear, then tilts her head. "I was at Keroon, not long before I came here. We stopped there before moving on to Nerat... Nice place, even if it /was/ a bit cold."
Kryz nods. "Yeah, I was there a few times, never very long though." He lets out a slight yawn, before covering his mouth and saying, "'scuse me. Guess my lack of sleep is starting to catch up with me." Not to mention that lingering cold he has. "So, anyway, what brings you here? Day off today?"
"Nah, just had a bit of free time between chores and classes," Ley says, putting her hands down flat on the table to scoot back a bit. "Maybe you should get some sleep?" Says the healer who's never even seen a patient yet.
Kryz laughs a bit. "If there's one thing you must know about me, I don't sleep," he says in a joking tone, those saddly that's pretty much to the truth. "The day's not long enough to get all these paintings done and have time to rest," he goes on with a silly grin."
"Ahhh," she says, nodding slowly with a mock-serious look on her face. "Well, as a healer I should advise you that sleep is important." She gives him a stern look, before breaking into a grin, shaking her head.
Kryz chuckles, "Well, I tend /not/ to listen to healers...when they're giving me orders," he adds, the smile never fading so she realizes he's still joking. He then takes the sketchpad that's been on his lap and lays it down on the table next to him. "Well, I'm certainly not getting anything done in there right now," he expains."
"I'm disturbing you?" she says, her smile fading slightly as she looks at him with a questioning look. "I'm so sorry." Getting ready to hop off the table, Ley ties her braids back again, missing one which falls back against her face. "Shells," she mumbles, leaving the stray where it is, not bothering to redo the knotting of her scarf.
Kryz shakes his head. "No, no...I wasn't really doing anything anyway," he says. "It was nothing against you. I think I honestly need a little break from my work right at the moment."
"Well, maybe we should get out of here then?" Motioning to the door, Ley finally gets off the table, giving the harper a smile. Too many distractions for him in here, she figured. "Go get something to eat, or a mug of klah?"
Kryz jumps off the table with a nod. "Yeah, sure," he says leaving
his sketchpad where it is and not taking it with him for once. "Where you
wanna head to?"
"Well, the Mug's rather nice," she says, opening the door for him
as she smiles. So what if Ley couldn't have her wine. They still served juice
and klah there, didn't they?
Kazyndra walks with a slight spring, her hair bouncing on her back, in from the Main Hall.
Kryz nods, "Mug it is then," he says and turns to the door. He pauses a second as he looks over the figure now standing there, a smile growing on his face. "ZYN!!!" he screams out as he dashes across the room and give the Harper a hug, then another. "I haven't seen you in...in forever!!"
Kazyndra eeps! Blink blink. She's being attacked by Kryz. Now how often does that happen. Never. "Hi Kryz.." she says with a bit of a smile.
Leywen fairly jumps, when not only somebody comes through the door she's holding, but Kryz screams as he spots the woman. Blinking, she eyes him as he hug the other harper. "Hi... Zyn," she says, giving the harper a smile, "I'm Ley." Introducing herself, since Kryz seemed to have forgotten about her now.
Kryz runs a hand through his hair, the excitement not leavign his face. "Sorry, sorry. This is Kazyndra. An old friend I haven't seen in a very long time. Zyn, this is Leywen. She's a healer appy." He turns back to Zyn still smiling. "but...I just never imagined to see you here. I mean, it' sbeen so long. Anyway, Ley adn I were headed to the Mug. Care to join?"
Kazyndra nods. "Sure, but first you have to tell me what you did now." Come on. Kryz hanging with a healer, it could happen, but more likely he did something...
Leywen looks from Kazyndra to Kryz, her brow furrowing as she looks at both questioningly. As far as she knew he hadn't done anything. Had he?
Liesana steps silently in from the Main Hall.
Kryz laughs. "No, actually we just ran into each other on the beach one day, and thn again another. You think I actually went to the healers?" he asks with a joking smile.
Kazyndra giggles. "I guess not, but then you never know for sure. Someone else could have made you. It's not like it hasn't happened before."
Leywen crosses her arms, giving Kryz a long look, as if lecturing him. She was a healer, after all, and if the man didn't go see healers when he was sick, she would do her best to change such behavior.
Liesana strolls into the art room, her carrysack dangling over her shoulder at a jaunty angle, with various picnic-things poking out of it. "Hey Kryz!" she calls out cheerfully, quite sure that her quarry is in here. "Want to eat breakfast al fresco today... Oh. Hi." This interesting conversational turn is prompted by the realization that Kryz is Not Alone. Leywen's look is given one of her own. Hrmmm... getting rather protective of him, for just being an aquaintance. And therefore a teasing light flicks into her eyes as she saunters over to the hapless artist, whispering to him that "Have you been forming your own private harem while I wasn't looking?" Obviously not, and Lies knows that quite well. But it bugs him.
Leywen blushes under her dark skin as the journeywoman joins in the conversation. Good Thing that it was hard to tell whether the healer was blushing or not, since that would have embarrassed her even further. Raising a hand to fiddle with the loose braid, she tilts her head toward Liesana, in her equivalant of a polite nod.
Kryz turns bright red. "Lies!" he scolds her. "It's just Zyn! and Ley. I guess you haven't really met her yet, have you?" he asks, ten goes through introductions again. "This is Liesana, this is Leywen," he says as he points to them.
Liesana chuckles, and mentally adds another point to her tally. "I know, I know... you just look so funny when you're imitating a redfruit." A twinkle shows that she means no malice with her teasing. "And yes, Leywen and I have met, briefly. Good to see you again, Healer."
"Ma'am," Leywen says to the journeywoman, remembering the lesson she'd had in adressing people of rank. "You too, ma'am." Looking at Kryz again, she grins, seeing his red face. Poor guy really was shy, wasn't he?
Kryz looks to the floor, not liking all this teasing. "Well....anyway...we were headed to the mug," his gaze goes to th ebasket Lies brought, "umless youhave a btter idea," he mumbles still highly embarassed.
Liesana smiles, and eyes the contents of her carrysack. "Nothing that can't be eaten at the Mug instead of outdoors. And the company's more important than the food, right? So I'll join you, if you don't mind." She hops off of the stool she'd settled on, and leans against the wall as she waits.
Leywen shivers involuntarily as the journeywoman suggests the outdoors, looking from her to Kryz, hoping that he was still in on her idea to go to the Mug.
Kryz nods, "Yeah, mug's fine. I don't think I especially care to go outside today." He hasn't been 100% healthy these past few days. "That good with you?" he asks turning to Zyn who's been /way/ too quiet, as usual.
Kazyndra nods. "Sounds alright by me." she replies. Quiet seems to be the new thing with her.
"The Mug it is then," Ley speaks up, throwing smiles all 'round as she opens the door and slips out. "I need something to drink anyway."
You pass out through the open french doors into the main hall.

You open a door labelled The Flying Mug and pass through.
The Flying Mug
The interior of the Flying Mug at first looks innocuous enough, but closer inspection reveals the scars and marks of a much-frequented bar. The tables all match each other, except for the wobbly leg on that one, and the big scar on this one, and the complex patterns of mug-rings on those, and that sleeping Crafter at the one in the corner... The chairs have many of the same problems, except they look much less used. The ceiling of the Flying Mug has been painted to resemble the sky over Ista. The painter must have been incredibly talented too, because he even knew how to make his paintings of dragons look like they were moving. Oh, wait, those are just firelizards. Nevermind. The walls, too, have been painted: small scenes of Pernese life intermingle with portraits and caricatures of famous Mug patrons.

Rose Table Game Room Dining Hall Great Hall
You stand in the rather rambunctious Flying Mug.
Kryz walks in from the great hall.
Liesana is led in by Kryz.
Kazyndra walks with a slight spring, her hair bouncing on her back, in from
the great hall.
Phea bounds, with childish glee, in from the great hall.
Kryz walks in and takes a seat at one of the larger tables. He grabs a drudge's attention, calling her over to take their orders.
"Klah," Ley tells the drudge, "and make it hot." She really couldn't stand cold or lukewarm klah, and thus makes sure the drudge will get her klah from the freshest and hottest pot.
Phea slept in, accidentally, this morning; see the sleep fuzzing her eyes and
the successive yawns plaguing her face? In between the soporific habits, healerlet
beams glabrously, flapping a hand as she sing-songs a greeting to those recognized,
"Leywen! Lies! Kryz! And.. I don't remember you, but hihihihi anyways!"
The latter being addressed to Kazyndra, naturally.
Kryz waves at the over excited newest arrival. "Hiya, care to join us? We just got here ourselves," he says with a smile.
Liesana grins. "Hey there, Phea. Eating indoors today? And Phea, meet Kazyndra. Zyn, meet Phea." Introductions tended to, she rounds on the drudge as well. "Some mulled wine would suit me nicely. And make sure it's heated through, please. I'd hate to show up to my first class completely sloshed."
"Well, no one was outside for me t'talk to today, so, you know, I didn't," Phea informs the harper mendaciously. Actually, she didn't want to be seen in the courtyard by some passerby apprentice who might rat on her for sleeping in. "Oh, Kryz-darling, that'd be loverly! Y'all are such sweeties, yep." Chubby frame is perched in a vacant chair, whilst ordering some tea from a drudge. "Extra sweetner, please, too." Kazyndra is peered and blinked it, with rapid swiftness. "Please t'meet you, Kazyndra-also-called-Zyn."
As the drudge comes back, Ley grabs her mug, holding it between her hands. As long as she stayed indoors, it really wasn't that cold, though, was it? She leans back in her chair, eyeing the ever-hyper Phea with a grin. "Feeling better now, Kryz," she says, turning to the harper, tilting her head toward him, her smile broadening slightly.
Kryz nods, "Yeah. Colds and lack of sleep don't mix well with too much work I suppose," he says with a chuckle. HE leans forward laying ihs head in his hands and leaning his elbows on the table. "Guess I've jsut been overworking myself, as usual. Seems like I picked the wrong project. It.s neverending."
Liesana wrinkles her nose playfully, before taking her mulled wine from the drudge. "You don't need a project to overwork yourself, Kryz... You'd find a way to do that all by yourself in a bare room, I'm sure." She takes a welcome sip of the pleasantly-spiced beverage, before inquiring "So... any more news from the mysterious portrait commisioner?" Like there'd be much change from yesterday, but...
Leywen groans as a healer apprentice ducks in waving at her to come. Turning back to Kryz, giving him an upside down grin. "There's a class," she says, throwing up her hands, before trying to drain at least some of her klah before leaving. "I'll see you." A wink is shot Kryz-way before she ducks out of the Mug.
You pass through a door into the great hall.

You go to the Hold Infirmary and Healer Hall.
Hold Infirmary and Healer Hall
With a faint smell of redwort, the room is astonishingly clean, even for an infirmary. Recently made tapestries cover the outer wall of the cavern, protecting the patients from the weather outside. Shelves line two of the walls, with healing supplies neatly placed on the labeled slots. Cabinets are above them, where herbs and medicines are stored, a few with locks that only masters have access to. Cots line the remaining wall, with sheets that can be pulled around the bed for privacy or surgery. Glows are fastened everywhere, giving this room an intense brightness.
Fareia, Mosiah, and Kendrala are here.
Obvious exits:
Healer Passage
Kendrala hello, all. I'm Kendrala, new appy mentored by Jaqui.
Kendrala shuffles her feet, realizing that she is finally getting to meet some of the other apprentices.
Mosiah crosses the length of the infirmary, dragging his hands out of his pockets while he approaches the water. His head turns at his name. "Oh, good morning, Farie... been getting along well, I trust." Hands delve into the water as he scrubs up. At another voice, the young man glances over his shoulder, "Kendrala... ah, then you are my body for the morning now, aren't you?" He comes away from the sink with a sidling grin on his features.
Kendrala says, "I guess so. Are you going to behave yourself?"
Kendrala senses an opportunity to tease and takes advantage of it while she
has the chance.
Leywen slips into the infirmary, her heavy skirt flowing around her ankles. "Morning," she says cheerily as she hurries to find a seat. "I''m Ley," she announces to those she hadn't met before.
Fareia nods slowly to Mo, then eyes Drala over and asks,"You the one gettin' your physical that I escaped my chores for for this lesson?" she asks, having had to narrowly avoid Jathen so she wouldn't get put to mopping or somesuch. She looks around for a moment, then leans against a nearby wall, her thumbs hanging in her pockets.
Kendrala says, "Hello, Fareia, isn't it? And, hello, Ley. "
Mosiah's dark eyebrows strive for his hairline at her words. He was momentarily stunned there, but somehow manages to revive himself. He grin deepens as he gestures to the side, a hand pointing to a folded pile on a chair, "You need to put that on. Its a gown so that it makes it far easier for me to do your physical." Hand then moves up to wave at another point, "You are free to change behind the divider back there. You know, modesty." And another enters into the room, causing the boy to break out into a smile. "Oh, you are lucky today, Kendrala. You get to put on a show for everyone." *wink* "I'm Mosiah and I shall be your healer." How he does love to say that.
OOC: Mosiah says "Okay, first off, you need to page or somehow talk to the person who you are gonna do the physical on. You need to see if they do have anything that we want to specificily find during the physical, injuries, etc... So, Kendrala, do you have any?"
Kendrala hides a chuckle under her grin, and steps quietly to the chair and sweeps the gown into her arms before ducking behind the divider.
Fareia grins to Mo,"Don't forget us," a nod is given to Kendrala,"That's right, name's Fareia." After rolling her shoulders, she pushes herself off the wall and wanders over to Mosiah,"Technically we're her healers too, if you do what you're suppossed to and teach us this," she says with an eyeroll, having gone through her own [hysical barely a sevenday ago.
OOC: Mosiah says "Also, I tend to ask them oocly if it is okay for my char to touch their char. Because what I do can be considered as poweplaying. Is that okay with you, Kendrala?"
Mosiah grins to Farie and Leywen, "Could I have you two wash up as well. Scrub using that water over there... and use redwort as well. Redwort keeps down infections." As you can tell, Moe's own hands seem to have a reddish tinge to them. He glances back to where Kendrala disappeared, "You don't happen to have any recent illnesses or injuries, do you? Its best if I know before we start in."
OOC: Kendrala says "I have a floppy ankle that is
currently bad with a bone chip from the femur."
OOC: Kendrala says "also respiratory congestion due to recovery from pneumonia.
Try that on, Pern style."
OOC: Mosiah boggles. Okie. Got ya.
Leywen disposes of her notebook and pencil by putting it on the stool she was sitting on, then makes her way to the basin Mosiah had pointed out, scrubbing her hands thouroughly all the way up over the wrists. "Do I need to dry off my hand 'fore putting on redwort," she asks, looking over her shoudler her hands dripping on the floor.
Fareia nods, eyeing the redwort, and not quite looking forward to having unusally colored hands but scrubs down, making sure to use the redwort. Glancing at her hands and wrinkling up her nose slightly she walks back to Mo and Drala.
Kendrala hearing the splashing on the other side of the divider, quickly settles the gown around her, and walks back into the company of the other healers.
Mosiah grins faintly as Kendrala returns, "Excellent. Could you please go over there and sit on the examination table. Just scooch right on up there." His hands lift up to remove the listening tube that was draped over the back of his neck. "I'm going to listen to your heart first." His hands work over the metal, warming it.
OOC: Mosiah says "Okay, we do have coded listening tubes, but I don't use them. You can, though, if you wish."
Kendrala glances at the other apprentices and follows Mosiah's instructions,
sitting easily on the table due in part to her long legs.
Kendrala squirms a bit and then realizes that all apprentices take part in physicals,
so she really has nothing to fear or be embarrassed about. Although that realization
doesn't help much.
Fareia watches silently, eyeing Mosiah warming the metal and decides to speak up,"What're you doing with your listening tube?" She crosses her arms and leans against another nearby table.
Leywen shrugs, smearing the redwort on her hands after drying them, then joins the others, watching as Mosiah begins his examination of Kendrala. Coming to her stool, she looks from her hands to the notebook lying there, blocking her seat, wondering whether or not it would by alright to pick it up, since she just used redwort on her hands.
Mosiah comes close to Kendrala, before answering Fareia's question, "I'm warming it up. You won't believe all the words that came out of this candidate's mouth the first time I gave a physical. You'd think they would pick those with a less colorful vocabulary. These metal tubes can be cold to the touch. I'm warming this one so Kendrala here doesn't take a swing at my jaw." *grin* He moves to press the tube to her chest as he listens, speaking at the same time, "I'm listening for a strong beat and no murmurs or stress...which I don't hear right now."
Kendrala says, "Please explain everything in detail, 'cause I might miss
something since I am the focus of all this attention. "
Kendrala grins good naturedly and tries to relax.
Fareia stifles a small giggle at Mosiah's response, yet keeping quiet so he can listen to Kendrala's heartbeat properly. The thought is, though, that a reaction from a cold listening tube might be quite amusing. Farie quickly erases that though. Musn't taunt patients, now.
Leywen finds herself another stool to sit on, crossing one leg over the other as she rests her redwort-colored hands on her knees, making a mental note on warming the listening tube's metal before using it on a patient.
Mosiah pulls back, removing the tube from its place just to the left of her sternum and nods to his 'subject'. "Nothing to worry about so far... but we've only just begun." Listening tube moves to the side, "Next, I'm going to listen to her breathing. Her breaths need to be even, with no clicking sounds, or rubbing or strain... Kendrala, just breathe regularly for me."
Kendrala breathes in and out, in and out, her breathe catching slightly, causing her to cough.
Mosiah frowns slightly at her actions. His eyebrows come down to shadow over his eyes, which are closed anyway. He pulls back as she begins to cough. "You've had a recent illness?" he queries. Listening tube is handed over behind him and in the general direction of Leywen to take. "Farie... can you go over to the counter and get me a glowtube?"
Fareia raises an eyebrow as Kendrala coughs,"So coughing would be...bad?" she asks, going over to find a glowtube and picking it up, handing it over to Mosiah.
Kendrala says, "a seven-day ago, I was hot and stayed abed for several days. Felt like I was panting after a long run, although I had trouble just getting up to move. Seems better now, although I just want to sleep all the time."
Leywen reaches out to catch Mosiah's listening tube before it falls to the ground, holding it between her hands as she looks worryingly at Kendrala, then at Mosiah with a questioning look in her eyes. He /was/ going to explain this, wasn't he?
Kendrala says, "the coughing is worse sometimes, especially if I am working hard or getting from place to place in a hurry."
Mosiah takes the tube from Farie as he continues to look over Kendrala, "You saw one of the masters about this, I trust? Bed rest is always good and maybe one of Aerrin's teas. They come well recommended." Head shakes from side to side, "It doesn't sound real bad... like you said, its sounds as though it is dissapating. You should probably keep away from any strenuous activity for at least another seven-day, just to be sure. I'll see if Aerrin' doesn't happen to hae one of her teas around here though."
Kendrala looks up at Mosiah in appreciation. "I just got back from visiting my brother at Gar. I didn't think to worry about being sick while I was there. And a tea would be wonderful"
Mosiah takes a deep breath before hefting the thin glowtube. He glances down at the instrument to make sure the glow is there, and abruptly gets blinded. Yep, its there. He looks back to Kendrala, "Okay, open up." As in her mouth.
Fareia watches closely over Mosiah's shoulder and asks,"Now, what are you looking for?" Isn't she a good appy? Always asking questions?
Leywen isn't in any questioning mood today. Even if she still smiling, she's feeling more or less dissapointed in being interrupted while.. Talking.. With her newest harperfriend. So Ley just sits there observing the examination, being more quiet than usual.
Mosiah grins faintly, "I usually ask the person before hand what they had for breakfast before peering in a place such as this..." The tube's light fickers in Kendrala's mouth, "But I figure... why not just grin and bare it." He winks to the others before looking in her mouth, "Say Ahhh now.... What I'm doing is looking for swelling, redness, puffiness, or any other foreign objects that really shouldn't be there." His nostrils flicker, "And you also need to check the breath by... yes... smelling it. Anything that smells sour or rotten would not be good."
Kendrala chuckles at the light shining into Mosiah's eyes and obligingly opens her mouth. "Yeah, what are you looking for?" she garbles with her mouth otherwise engaged. But the words don't make a lot of sense, given her situation.
Um...Ew? Farie raises an eyebrow as she watches Mosiah, stepping back again. Right then. Remind her to brush her teeth before she goes to her next physical for the healer's sake.
Kendrala gasps when she wonders whether she has a bad odor wafting from her open mouth. Oh, shards, what if she stinks?
"And then next horror on our little tour is a glance up Kendrala's nose." Gee, isn't Moe flattering. He ammends, "Not that it isn't a rather wonderful feature to look upon." He follows that one up with a grin. "Go ahead and close your mouth. He reaches over to lightly touch under the girl's chin, cocking her head back so he can peer up there better. "I'm looking for the proper amount of mucus, no swelling, reddness, or things that really shouldn't be up there... like that tuber fry. Really now, Kendrala." He releases her and winks. "Kidding. Everything is fine."
Fareia giggles slightly then looks at Mo,"Well this seems easy enough so far. What's next?"
Kendrala considers snorting just to tease Mosiah but decides against it. Tip the head back and appear to be composed.
Kendrala glances over at Fareia and winks broadly, just out of range of Mosiah's gaze.
Leywen grimaces, thinking of looking up someones nose, and down their throats. Suppose that comes with the job, huh? She fiddles some with Mosiah's listening tube, moving it from hand to hand as she closely observes the healer's examination of Kendrala.
Mosiah grins back to Farie. "That it is... except for her coughing. But that is what a physical is for, to find if there is anything wrong with a person." He frowns slightly at the lack of commentary over in Leywen's area of the infirmary, "Come on over here Leywen, lets take a good look of Kendrala's ear... Seeing as she does have two, you each get one." Ah yes, that would be Farie getting the other one. Gently, he moves Kendrala's hair from her ear before handing over the glowtube to Lewyen. "Go ahead... look."
Fareia blinks and sidles over to Drala's other ear,"And what am I looking for, anyways?" she asks, peering at the ear from afar and waiting for Leywen to finish checking over 'her' ear.
Mosiah grins to Kendrala, as if reassuring her. "You need to look at the earswax, swelling, reddness. You know, the usual. Also need to keep an eye out for any kind of infection or rash."
Kendrala patiently awaits the results from her duel ear exams and then realizes that neither of the other apprentices know what they should be looking for.
Leywen slides off her stool, hanging the other healers listening tube around her neck as she grabs the glowtube with one hand, holding away Kendrala's hair with the other. Pointing the light at the ear, she balks at the way it looks in there. "The usual?" But what exactly did usual look like inside an ear? "I dunno if this looks right," she mutters, glancing at Mosiah.
Mosiah grins and moves over to take a look anyway. Eyes wince as he takes the tube from Leywen and moves the glowtube's light over her ear, angling it just so to look deeper in. "No, she has perfect ears... at least this one is." He then tosses the tube through the air, in Farie's general direction. "Catch."
Fareia catches the tube, shining it near Drala's ear and cocking her head as she peers in,"I think it looks good. Despite the fact that I can see through to the other side," she says with a wink and a giggle,"Just kiddin' Drala. You have two good ears...I think."
Kendrala sensing Leywen's uncertainty, quips "Ley, no bugs in there, are
there?" She hopes that Leywen will relax and join in the good-natured joking.
Kendrala says, "my brother, Novar, always said that he could see forever
if he got too close to my ears"
"'Course not," Leywen says, frowning and in no mood for jokes today. Seeing as she was forcefully pulled away from a very nice chat to attend a class.
Mosiah comes back around Kendrala to make sure the other ear is perfectly fine. "Well, she is responding to our speaking, so they must work." At his subject's words, the boy chuckles. "Ah, the fun of siblings." He comes around to stand before her, motioning for the other two to join him. "Now, for the eyes. Please follow the light's progress without moving your head." He then slowly moves the tube from side to side, his gaze on her eyes.
Kendrala giggles conspiratorily with Fareia. And at the same time, realizing that Leywen must have something important that she is considering.
Kendrala moves her eyes in cooperation and then, rapidly crosses and uncrosses her eyes, just to see what Mosiah will say to the other apprentices.
Fareia smiles and watches the glowtube then blinks and watches her eyes,"What are you looking for, Mo?"
Mosiah blinks and then grins to Kendrala, chuckling, "Such tallent in the healering ranks. I couldn't cross my eyes if my life depened upon it." And without any warning, he flickers the light into her eyes, "You nee to make sure your subjects eyes are clear, and not clouded. When I flash the light in her eye, I'm checking to see if they are dialating and contracting at the same speed.... you will probably be seeing some spots right now, Kendrala?"
Kendrala gulps, realizing that she probably should be more serious, given that
her progress as an apprentice might be influenced by her behavior during lessons.
She grins apologetically to Mosiah, hoping that he knows that her good spirits
are just in fun and not meant to be a hindrance to the process.
Kendrala says, " yep, got spots."
Mosiah grins faintly. If she is worried about her actions, Moe shoulda been downright quaking in his sandals at what he did during his own first physical. Glowtube is handed over to Farie for her care. "Lewyen... could you get me that mallet over there on the counter. Its time to beat on the subject."
Kendrala blinks rapidly and wonders what part of her person will be beaten.
Fareia smiles slightly at Drala then takes the glowtube and sets it back on the counter, waitching Leywen get the mallet.
Leywen blinks, a grin forming on her otherwise more and more sour face, as she turns to grab the mallet from the counter. "There ya go, Mosiah," she says, handing him the mallet as she looks from him to Kendrala, "beat the patient, eh? How so?"
Mosiah takes up the mallet and approaches Kendrala, thumping the head of it in the palm of his hand. "Reflexes... lets see how fast she can run." A grin and then he hastily adds, "Just kidding. I'm just going to tap this... with the flat side, just below your knee to see how quick your reflexes are." He licks his lips before moving to the side, gently easing up the gown so that her bare knee is visibile, drawing back, and then tapping at the spot he spoke of.
Kendrala 's knee quickly flips her lower leg up into the air, barely missing Mosiah.
Fareia hehs as she leans on a nearby exam table and jokes,"Don't want to stand in front of her, eh Moe?" She crosses her arms and ankle, once again in the usual pose.
Mosiah glances over his shoulder to Fareia, giving her a rather wry grin. "Once more, learned through experience." He nods appreciatively to Kendrala, "Nice kick you've got there. I'll have to remember that if I ever take you out on the dancefloor at the next gather." Mallet is handed over to... Leywen, "Go ahead and have a go at her other knee. Just do what I said and remember to stand clear."
Leywen nods as she hefts the mallet in her hand, coming closer to her knee, though standing well clear of her kicking range. Perfoming the movement she'd seen Mosiah do, she taps Kendrala's other knee.
Kendrala says, "You'd best remember that kick, Mosiah. Gather dancing is a prime activity, when I'm not coughing, that is!"
Kendrala 's other leg cooperates with Ley's efforts and flips into the air.
Mosiah nods at Kendrala's next kick, "Good. Nearly done now, folks. Kendrala, I'm going to ask you to lie back on the table so I can check your abdomen. I'm just looking for any lumps or suchforth that really shouldn't be there."
Kendrala squiggles back on the table so that her bottom is not hanging off. Wouldn't want to be caught drooping!
Mosiah closes his eyes as he prods around at her middle with light fingers. Hopefully she isn't too tickleish. "Fareia... could you please go over to the cupboard and take out a small, red vial. Second shelf, there are quite a few of them." Once he is done examining Kendrala, he takes a long step back. "And there you are, aside from that cough, everything seems alright. You can sit up now and go change back to your clothes."
Fareia makes her way over to the cabinet and removes the vial, eyeing it suspiciously,"And what is this? And what is it for?" she asks, holding it out to Mosiah.
Kendrala obligingly sits up and slips from the table, grasping the gown with one hand. Well, that wasn't so bad. She ducks behind the screen, hurriedly putting on her clothes so that she doesn't miss any information that Mosiah might be giving to the other apprentices.
Kendrala a red vial - humm. what might that be for?
Mosiah takes the vial from her. "First off, Kendrala. I need to ask you something. Are you pregnant?"
Kendrala rejoins the group as Fareia hands the vial to Mosiah.
Kendrala says, "I thoroughly doubt it. Although it wouldn't hurt to check,
I suppose."
Leywen hangs back, suppressing a small yawn. No she's not bored. Just tired, see? She crosses her arms, leaning against a stool as she watches the others, eyeing Mosiah and Kendrala as the pregnancy question comes up.
Fareia blinks at Kendrala and cocks her head, wondering. Anything that would make her think that she is pregnant /is/ against craft policy, so that wouldn't be good.
Kendrala shrugs her shoulders and grins at Fareia and Leywen. No-one has ever asked that question of her before.
Mosiah blinks as she asks this, "Well, then you aught to take a visit down to the warf and see a dolphin to make sure." He glances to the others, "Apprentices cannot be pregnant. The females of the craft need to drink this once a month to make sure this doesn't happen. The males have to drink a contraceptive also."
Mosiah glances most meaningfully to Kendrala, "Which is why I asked if you thought you were pregnant. I need to have your permission before I give you this vial for you to drink."
Fareia eyes Mosiah curiously and of course asks,"Why do /guys/ have to take a contraceptive?" she says, stumbling over the word. Will this put a guy in an uncomfortable position? Too bad for them.
Kendrala says, "well, I firmly agree with that policy. And, no, I'm not
pregnant - just wanted to see what you would say. "
Kendrala reaches for the vial in non-verbal permission for Mosiah to give her
the vial to drink.
Mosiah grins slightly to Fareia, "Because we cannot have children either. It would take away from our apprenticing duties. Apprentices are not to have any... relationships either, but this is to make sure nothing happens." He looks to Kendrala once more, frowning slightly, but then handing it over. "If you are sure... you must drink this every month from now on."
Fareia smirks slightly at Mosiah,"Can we warn our patient about the taste of the delicious,"she says sarcastically,"contraceptive?"
Kendrala says, "I am definitely sure! And I will definitely drink this very month from now on. Just what is this concoction, anyway? Will be learn how to make this potion during our apprenticeship?"
Leywen hangs her head slightly, looking up through half lidded eyes at Mosiah. There wasn't any rules against flirting was there? Otherwise, she'd be in rather much trouble already.
Mosiah glances over to Fareia, "You can... I do... sometimes." Obvioiusly, this time he didn't. As the drink is taken down, the takes back now empty vial. "You learn things like that in the more advanced herbarly classes." And he heaves a sigh, "And that is the end of your physical. Thank you so very much for putting up with being the teaching case, Kendrala. I'm sure that Fareia and Lewyen greatly appreciate it, as do I."
Kendrala quickly looks in Fareia's direction. "What do you mean, delicious?"
Kendrala then gasps as the contraceptive slides down her throat, almost causing
another coughing spell. She sputters and nods at Mosiah.
Leywen nods in agreement with Mosiah's statement on her behalf. "You were an excellent patient, Kendrala," she says, grinning at the other. Also Ley's first patient, so what did she have to compare with anyway?
Mosiah grins faintly to Kendrala, "So, are they any questions before I have to go?"
Kendrala says, "having a physical was one of those things that I had to do. Now, how do we organize giving someone a physical when we feel that we are ready."
Mosiah looks to Kendrala, "Well, you need to have a J'man with you when you do it on another person. I've been doing physicals by myself for quite some time now, which is why there weren't any right here close by."
Kendrala remembers her notebook and wishes she could have written some thoughts
and questions during the process. Hopefully she will remember when she has a
chance to collect her thoughts.
Kendrala says, "Oh, must have a J'man."
Kendrala says, "anything else that we must know about?"
Mosiah considers for a moment. "well, except for if you were perhaps... giving me a physical. Guy must be checked for a hymen. When you have the person lie back, with their shoulders pushed back, it'll jump out at you. But, seeing as I'm lacking anything that stick out of my stomach area.. .and none of you are guys." He grins faintly.
Fareia goes home.
Mosiah has disconnected.
Mosiah's attention wavers as he... *Snork* Well, he is asleep again.
Kendrala says, "Thanks, Leywen, for being here for this physical. Now you can get back to whatever you were up to before this lesson came to be."
Leywen grins, pushing off the stool, making it fall over with a loud scramble against the floor. "Thanks for having me," she says, picking the stool up and getting her notebook from another stool. "Oh... He forgot his listening tube," she says, taking Mosiah's tube from her neck and putting it on a nearby table. "I'll see you then, Kendrala.."
